If you are planning a trip to Hawaii in October, you’re probably thinking its too beautiful to ever want to be scared there, but there are plenty of haunted places in Hawaii!
The islands are home to several family-friendly events designed to celebrate Halloween in a family-friendly environment.

The Honolulu Zoo hosts one of the best family-friendly Halloween celebrations on the islands. The celebration is hosted on the Stage Lawn, where kids can enjoy trick-or-treating, a costume contest, face painting, story time, games and special animal encounters. It’s a great way to combine Halloween fun with learning about wildlife.
This event includes two haunted houses, with one designed for younger children.
Hawaiian Railway in Ewa celebrates Halloween with its annual Spookapalooza with train rides where you may come across scary ghosts & more, running starting at 7 PM. The last train departs at 9:15 PM.
The annual celebration includes children’s games and food trucks. Be sure to wear your fav Halloween costume, too!
Head to Downtown Honolulu for Hallowbaloo, a music and arts festival with a lot of fun activities for all ages.
Every year, the Waikiki Aquarium hosts a fun-filled Halloween event for kids. The “Keiki in Costume” event features trick-or-treating around the aquarium, spooky crafts, and educational activities. Kids can learn about marine life while enjoying Halloween festivities.
For families with older kids, the Haunted Plantation at the Hawaii’s Plantation Village in Waipahu offers a spine-chilling experience. With haunted houses and scare zones, it’s one of the scariest Halloween attractions in Hawaii. Note: This might be too intense for younger children, so use discretion.
There are a few Oahu pumpkin patches to enjoy on Halloween. You can go grab a pumpkin and then head home to do some family pumpkin carving!
There are plenty of places to take some cute family pictures at each pumpkin patch as well.
The annual Keiki Halloween Festival takes place at the Will Smith Imua Discovery Garden in Wailuku.
Kids and their families can enjoy trick or treating, live music, family activities, a Halloween costume contest, and all kinds of spooky fun. It is like a Maui Halloween party for kids!
This outdoor event is presented by Imua Family Services to help families experience the spectacle of Halloween in a fun and safe environment alongside their friends and neighbors. Registration is only $5 per family. You can register online.
For a fun haunted Halloween event, try this Haunted Haiku Hike at Awalau Farm. Along this mile-long trail, you will hear and see ghost stories about Maui as you go on this ghost-walking tour.
This event is best for kids 6+ years old. Be sure to register online and wear good walking shoes.
The Maui Ocean Center hosts Halloween-themed events with underwater pumpkin carving demonstrations, trick-or-treating, and marine life education. It’s an educational and entertaining way to celebrate Halloween.
Take your kids to Kula Country Farms for their annual pumpkin patch. Enjoy hayrides, corn mazes, and a variety of family-friendly activities. Picking out the perfect pumpkin with a view of the ocean is a unique Maui experience.
A Halloween tradition, the Cantu family decorates their yard on Oct. 31, providing a family-friendly haunted attraction in Kapaa.
The property consists of two attractions – the front yard is aimed at younger children with non-threatening displays, while the backyard is decorated for older children.
Since they design it each year, the displays may change, so you’ll never know what you may encounter. Check local news outlets for more information as the holiday approaches.
Kukui Grove Center offers a safe and fun trick-or-treating experience for kids. The shopping center hosts a Halloween event with candy giveaways, costume contests, and family-friendly entertainment.
Storybook Theatre in Hanapepe transforms into a spooky haunted house during Halloween. The event includes ghost stories, haunted tours, and crafts. It’s a fun, slightly eerie experience for the whole family.
Lihue’s annual Keiki Costume Contest and Parade is a family favorite. Kids can show off their costumes, participate in the parade, and win prizes. The event often features live entertainment and food vendors.
This outdoor event is usually held at either the Hawaii Green Earth’s farm in Paauilo on weekends throughout October or at Pa’Ani Ranch. It’s a mix of fall festival and part trunk or treat.
You’ll find a pumpkin patch, corn maze, lots of concessions, tons of photo ops, and even farm animals! You can buy your Holoholo-Ween tickets online.
The annual trick-or-treat event takes place at the Keauhou Shopping Center in Kona. The celebration includes food trucks and live entertainment. Of course, children are invited to trick-or-treat at participating retail shops.
For a more adventurous Halloween, take part in the Haunted Hike at the Volcano Art Center. The guided hike through the rainforest includes spooky stories and surprises along the way. It’s a thrilling experience for older kids and teens.
